Imagine one place that is far from religion, politics and money. Isn’t that something usually not happened in our country ?

Well, such place do exist in this world. 

Yes! you heard it right, well let me just introduce you one of the place which has all the qualities yet far from all the fame. 

Auroville is an experimental community in southern India. It was founded in 1968 by the spiritual leader Mirra Alfassa as a town where people from all over the world could live in harmony. Its focal point is the Matrimandir, a futuristic, spherical temple covered in gold discs. Auroville Botanical Gardens protect the region’s tropical dry evergreen forest. Auroville Beach is a long sandy stretch with gentle surf.

At its Annual Conference in 1964 with Mirra Alfassa as its Executive President, Sri Aurobindo Society in Pondicherry passed a resolution for the establishment of a city dedicated to the vision of Sri Aurobindo. Alfassa was spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo, who believed that “man is a transitional being”. The town was designed by Roger Anger.Auroville, near puduchery in Tamil Nadu,is know as city of Dawn.A site, approximately 20 square kilometres of barren wasteland, some 10 km north of Pondicherry and 5 km from the coast was chosen for the city.

The Matrimandir


One of the most attracting place of Auroville is Matrimandir, it is in the middle of the town which was conceived by Alfassa as “a symbol of the Divine’s answer to man’s aspiration for perfection”. The whole area surrounding the Matrimandir is called peace area.

Matrimandir is furnished with a solar power plant and is surrounded by manicured gardens. When there is no sun or after the sunset, the sunray on the globe is replaced by a beam from a solar powered light. Matrimandir, the temple in the township, is of spiritual significance.

Interesting facts about Auroville:

Money, as we know it does not exist in Auroville. They exchange items on Aurocard & have monetary exchange only with outside the world.
Auroville is a self-reliant township.With a town -planning bureau, research institutions, restaurants & other industries.

With a population of over 2,400 people coming from around 50 countries. Auroville has people hailing from all age groups,cultures and backgrounds. There is  no such concept of religion.

Auroville indeed sound like heaven on Earth!
