Haridwar is a city in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand in India. It’s a place where river Ganga enters in plain areas in north India after flowing 250 kms from its origin Gaumukh (Gangotri Glacier).
It’s a holy place of Hindus where people come to take a dip in the river to get rid of their sins. Haridwar is a great place for tourism where many foreigners visit this place to know about the Hindu rituals, their culture and its ancient civilization. The place is surrounded by mountains with wonderful lush green forests and crystal clear water of the river Ganga which adds magic to his beauty. In the evening the ghats look even more beautiful as hundreds of diyas (lamps) and marigold flowers float in river Ganga.
It is said to be blessed with three major Gods of Hindus Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and this place is also referred as the Gateway to God. Haridwar is situated in the foothills of the shivalik range in Garhwal Himalayas. It is also a center for learning different arts & culture. The place is also a great source of Ayurvedic medicines & herbal remedies.
Haridwar is home to unique Indian tradition of ‘Gurukul’ teaching since 1902. One can find innumerable temples, groups of monks in saffron clothes, enchanting sounds of vedic hymns and the divine holiness. It is also one of the four places where Kumbh Mela occurs after rotation of every twelve Years and Ardh Kumbh after every six years. It is said that drops of Amrit (Elixir) fell in to the Brahmkund of Har-Ki-Pauri, therefore a dip in the Brahmakund is considered auspicious.
