Known as the one of the most terrifying fish in the sea, this Sarcastic fringhead is not the most photogenic sea critter in the pond. The photo shows the large mouth of the aggressive and territorial nature of the fringhead.
The fringhead is one of the smaller fish in the ocean as they typically reach about 12-inches long. However, because they are elongated, slender, scaleless, and have great pectoral fins and reduced pelvic fins, they have a monster-like appearance.
The Sarcastic fringhead is found in the Pacific off of the coast of North America. Most of these peculiar ocean creatures are found from San Francisco to Baja.
Fringheads are most well-known for their territorial battles. When two of the fish come together, an epic battle ensues and they wrestle by pressing their distended mouths against each other to see which one of the two is the larger and more dominant fish.
