Fruit Dove

The wonderful Fruit Dove is a little multi-coloured pigeon of the tree shade. It is a compact bird, with small curved wings and a tiny tail. The male has an orange hind-neck, a purple cap, a blue-black breast-band that divides white underparts from a grey upper breast. These are moderately barred green, and the overall body is green. The green tail has grey points. The female is green, with a grey breast and white underparts. There is a tiniest purple area on the crown. Young birds look like females but require the purple crown patch. This class is also named the Purple-crowned Fruit Dove or the Superb Fruit-Pigeon.
Fruit-Dove is equal in size and it is very difficult to differentiate from P. Regina and the Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove, when high in the jungle canopy. However, at earlier sections the male Superb Fruit-Dove is much more prominent. Like the male, the female has white underparts moderately barred at the sides with green, in distinction to the apricot-yellow underparts of equally sexes of the Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove.
