Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Movie Review

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Movie Review

‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ (HSKD) by Shashank Khaitan is by far the best tribute to the evergreen 1995 film, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. It tells the story of Kavya Pratap Singh (played by Alia Bhatt), a girl from a rich family in Ambala who is all set for an arranged marriage with an NRI guy she obviously hasn’t seen. She goes to Delhi on the pretext of wedding shopping, but all she wants to do is have a bit of fun before submitting to the dungeon that is marriage (just like our Simran from ‘DDLJ’). It is here that she meets Humpty Sharam aka Rakesh. Now, Humpty Sharma is a typical Delhi lad who believes in living life large. He is big on the matters of heart and this aspect is proven as he watches the movie ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ all teary eyed. This large hearted college kid falls in love with Kavya and wants to fulfill all her dreams. Here enters Angad (played by Siddharth Shukla), the near perfect NRI dude whom Kavya’s dad (played by Ashutosh Rana) wants her to get married to. The film traces their ensuing journey for love, fighting all odds and winning hearts. Now, the first thing that you would notice in the movie is the amazing chemistry shared by the lead pair of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. They get into the skin of their character with relative ease. The male bonding scenes between Humpty and his two friends, Shonty (Gaurav Pandey) and Poplu (Sahil Vaid) are both funny and entertaining at the same time. Siddharth Shukla who makes his bollywood film debut with this movie looks super hot and is a perfect cast for the role of Angad. His acting skills are tremendous and one hopes to see more of him in the films to come. Ashutosh Rana does justice to the role he’s given and delivers a great performance. Bollywood movies have used the formula of romance a little too much. But what makes HSKD stand out is it’s wonderfully written script coupled with great direction and amazing performances. Music by Sachin-Jigar and Toshi Sabri is apt and suits the mood of the film well. Overall, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ is the DDLJ of the Facebook era and is a sure shot winner. A must watch!
