Kamal Haasan at Harvard: We cannot take freedom of speech for granted
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan spoke at the India Conference 2016 at Harvard University on Sunday. He addressed the students and spoke on freedom. He also touched various topics like religion, film censorship and his educational qualification.
The actor started the speech by explaining why he chose freedom of speech as the topic for his oration. He then went on to talk about freedom of speech and said one should not take if for granted.
He said, “I have taken this opportunity to put on record through media and those receptive minds here that we cannot take freedom of speech for granted and complacently think that democracy automatically means freedom of speech”.
Kamal Haasan then spoke about the reformation of Indian censor board. He claimed that censorship should be like a statutory warning and not more than that.
