Mimi, Srabanti, Dev in Birsa’s next film
Birsa Dasgupta seems to be having a Dev season. The reason: though the director has pushed back the shoot of his Dev-starrer love story of a terrorist, he is all set to go on the floors with his next, which also stars the Tolly heartthrob.
The reasons for pushing back his first project, Birsa says, are many — he’s yet to finalize the perfect climax, his team is still looking for a fresh face to cast as the leading lady and lastly, since most of the film will be shot outdoors, the weather has to be right. According to the revised plan, the film will now be shot in winter.
The director is elated by the fact that Dev has agreed to star in his new film too. “Dev has been really sporting in agreeing to act in this film too. It shows what a team man he is. The moment Shrikantda (Mohta) offered it to him, he was game. I feel privileged and lucky,” Birsa said.
The story of the film, which revolves around the life of a newlywed couple who start out hating each other and eventually come to terms with each other and their pasts, has been penned by Debaloy Bhattacharya. “It is a romantic family entertainer with a dose of humour. It will also star Srabanti, Mimi Chakraborty, and another important male character, who has not been finalized yet. Arindam Sil and Biswanath Basu will also play vital roles,” the director added.
Speaking about the film, Shrikant Mohta, the film’s producer, said, “This is a new genre for Birsa, but after reading the script, I felt the audience will be able to relate to its characters. The plot revolves around first love, arranged marriage, falling in love and acceptance after marriage.” Naturally, Birsa is nervous, yet excited about the film. “I had directed Dev in Obhishopto Nighty, in which he had made a guest appearance, but in this film, he will be playing the lead. Directing him in a full-fledged commercial film will be quite a challenge. But I am also looking forward to working with Srabanti, as I have always felt she is one the finest actresses we have. As far as cast ing Mimi goes, she is one of first few names that come to mind every time a script is ready. Mimi is a darling to work with and is a team player,” he said.
Mimi, too, is excited about the project. “I play Koli, a happy-go-lucky girl from north Kolkata. The film is about what happens when Aadi (Dev) and Noyontara’s (Srabanti) marriage falls apart. There is a relationship between Aadi and Koli. Whether it’s before the marriage or after it, I can’t disclose now. The stories are interlinked,” said Mimi. Srabanti is upbeat about working with Birsa. “My character has two shades in the film and has a strong presence. I love romantic films, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ve played Dev’s girlfriend, but this is the first time, I’ll be playing his wife. God knows what pranks he’ll play on the sets,” said the actress with a smile.
Subhankar Bhar is the DoP of the film, which will go on the floors in early June and will be shot mostly in Kolkata.
